And thanks to those clever headache pain relief commercials, medicine cabinets, purses, desk drawers, and glove compartments are fully stocked with medication for the “normal” headache.

Hi, I am Dr. Wayne Christensen, Queen Creek Back Care, here in Queen Creek AZ, and I help people just like you who have been suffering with headaches everyday. As a chiropractor, I read studies and reports everyday, and here's a scary statistic. 1 in 6 Americans suffer with headaches or migraines everyday.

Here are a few misconceptions about headaches.
Over-The-Counter medication treats the cause of your headache. Not true. These pills may give you temporary relief by masking headache pain. If they actually treated the headache, it would go away permanently.
Headache medication can't harm you. Drugs, even the over-the-counter ones are not 100% safe. In fact, many side effects of these are worse than the headache.
Stress causes headaches Yes, stress is a part of life, but not necessarily the cause of your headache. It's how your body adapts to stress that determines if “stress” will affect how you feel.
Headaches go away on their own, they always do. What's the definition of insanity?Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Obviously, taking medication after medication isn't working, so doing something different is in order.
Your problem is always where your pain is Not always true. Even though you may be feeling your headache in your sinuses, behind your eyes, etc... it may not be where the problem is located. For instance, oftentimes people with a disc problem in their low back may get pain, numbness, or weakness in their legs, even if there's nothing physically wrong with the legs.
One of the most common causes of headaches that do not originate in the head is called a “cervicogenic” headache Cervicogenic headache- a headache which has its origin in the area of the neck. The source of pain is found in structures around the neck which have been damaged. These structures can include joints, ligaments, muscle, and cervical discs, all of which have complex nerve endings. Any damage or irritation to these areas can trigger pain signals interpreted as a headache.

Signs of a "cervicogenic headache."
If you answer “yes” to any of these six questions you may hav a “cervicogenic headache”
1. Has your neck ever experienced trauma?
2. Have you ever been in a car accident?
3. Have you ever played football or any other contact sports?
4. Have you experienced many minor injuries?
5. Is your neck stiff or, at times, difficult to move?
6. As a child, did you experience a fall off the swing, porch, down stairs, on any other 'minor' incident?

If you answered “yes” to at least one of the following questions, your headache may be caused by a hidden problem in your neck. Want a drugless, non-surgical approach that may help you? Studies show that: Chiropractic care is effective in treating many causes of headaches. What used to be though as a treatment for “bad backs” has been shown to be very effective in helping those with cervicogenic headaches.
